Doing QT from the past 2 days + today. We see in Nehemiah 6 that Sanballat and Tobiah are opposed to Nehemiah, and they constantly try to stop him by manipulating people and trying to get him to do things he isn’t supposed to do. But Nehemiah had discernment and help from God to tell what was from God and what was not from God. He eventually finished the wall, and he set guards in front of it. He gave Hanani and Hananiah charge over Jerusalem. Nehemiah then made a genealogy about the people who came back to Jerusalem.
I reflected on P Abe’s sermon on Matthew 1’s genealogy recently for another Bible study, and I again remember the truth that God’s providence was guiding all the events of Israel. Although the exile happened due to Israel’s disobedience and idolatry, God’s promise to Abraham and David had to be fulfilled through the tribes of Israel who came out of captivity. Today’s genealogy reflects God’s promises because it shows Jesus’s bloodline being carried on through Nehemiah’s actions and the restoration of Jerusalem.
I want to remember that our God is a God of promises and that God has fulfilled words that were spoken, and he will continue to fulfill all the promises in the Bible. Jesus promises to come back one day, and I want to wait for God’s promises of our eternal life in heaven.
