In yesterday’s passage, we learned about Nehemiah’s sadness when he heard about the destruction of Jerusalem’s walls. He asked King Artaxerxes I if he could go to Jerusalem to rebuild things. The king let him go, so he went down to Jerusalem. In Jerusalem, some people opposed him and didn’t like what Nehemiah was doing to help Jerusalem. He went out by night to inspect the walls and was very secretive of his work. His opposition sneered at him, but he stayed strong in God. Today’s passage shows who did what in rebuilding all the gates of Jerusalem. Most people around helped out, but some nobles refused to help.
I guess what I can take away is to be confident in my faith. Nehemiah was confident that God would help them and make them prosper in the end of chapter 2, so I want to have a similar confidence that God has good plans for me (Jeremiah 29:11).
