- Scripture: Genesis 11:10–11:32
- The Anchor: “Now Sarai was childless because she was not able to conceive… Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot… and his daughter-in-law Sarai… and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan.” – Genesis 11:30–31
The text today is about the genealogy of Shem. This is the direct bloodline of Jesus, and we are introduced to some key people, like Abram, Sarai, and Lot. Nahor, Abram’s brother, is also important because he is the grandfather of Rebekah, Isaac’s future wife. Also, Sarai was barren, which contributes to God’s future plan.
I am excited for the next many days, where we read the story of Abram.
Reflection
- The passage notes that Sarai was barren, a detail that seems like a dead end but actually sets the stage for a massive miracle in God’s future plan. When you face an obstacle or a situation that feels completely hopeless, how can you practice trusting that God is already preparing a way forward?
- This genealogy bridges the gap between the ancient world and the story of Abraham, showing that God meticulously tracks every generation. In your own busy life—between family, school, library study sessions, and practicing the cello—how does it feel to know that God cares about every line and detail of your personal story?
Prayer
Lord, thank You that even when a situation looks empty or impossible to us, it is never a dead end in Your grand plan. Help me to trust Your perfect timing and faithfulness as I walk through my normal routines today. Amen.
